NOT QUITE ON THE BALL
SABRES 2 PARK STREET VILLAGE 4

This was a difficult game in conditions more suitable for sitting at home
watching the TV, but despite the rain we did produce some good
constructive football in the first half. We also had a bare 11 players with Alex bravely playing when he felt
under par, but the absence of  our 3 recognised left backs did tell in the end.

Park Village went ahead after 25 mins
We drew level at 1-1 in the 35th minute when Matt turned in from the left
to blast an unstoppable shot with his right from Jevan's superb through pass We were again behind  at 1-2, 5mins into the second half, when our
defence did not clear in these treacherous conditions, but once again a
minute or so later  we drew level at 2-2 with matt shooting low at the right post from good work from Jermaine  and Jevan.
We again went behind 2-3, 25mins in the second half from a generous
penalty and to finish it off at 2-4 after 31 mins, when a shot which was going wide was aided by a slippery
ball and was deflected off keeper Glen's gloves into the corner of the net.
This was a fine spirited performance, a close match which with a  better luck if the dice could have finished in our favour.
Next week we hope to have our new signing Matty from Muswell Hill playing, which will help our rearguard.

Sunday 8th November: Away at Hemel Hempstead, 10.30 k.o, meet at Powerleague at 9.00am.

BACK IN BUSINESS
PARK STREET VILLAGE 2 SABRES 5

We had a very accomplished 5-2 away win against Park Street Village, with flowing passing football, none more so than our third with Odane netting from Dom's pass, to complete a ten man passing spree, in the 22nd minute.  This had put us 3-0 up, following goals from Dom in the 3rd minute from Matt's pass and Seun, who was also put through by Matt in the 10th minute.

We were unlucky that Alex's clean tackle was misconstrued by the referee and Park Street pulled one back from the penalty spot, just before half time.

After the interval a newly invigorated Jermaine ran through to collect Matt's pass to slot home after 5 minutes, but shortly after this Park Street pilled another goal back on a rare occasion when our defence failed to clear.

We renewed our shape again and reverted to our passing game, wrapping it up when Jermaine picked up his second goal 5 mins from the end, after a long solo run and skipped round the goalie.

We meet Park Village again at home so we need to consolidate our position by repeating our success.

WE TURN THE CORNER
SABRES 3 ABBOTT'S 0

We had our first win of the season against Abbott's in the League Cup, and it came with a style of football that we have been using in training - total football.  The score was 2-0 at half time with goals by Seun after 11 minutes, having been put through by Matt for a solo run on goal,  and Matt, a thunderbolt after 29 minutes; finishing 3-0 at full time, with a further goal by Dom after 36 minutes of the second half, following up on Saul's shot which hit the bar.

So we are through to the next round, but we were unable to repeat our performance in our league fixture against them the following week.

There is still some way to go for the consistency to build up, and for us to perform like we do in training. I heard a comment by one team member that he was not a defender. Let me assure you that we are all defenders, not necessarily in the sense of being one of the back four.

We each defend and attack in a game, thus the defence also attacks. On Sunday we play Comets at home at the Arena, Bethune Park N11. KO 12.00. Let us show that we can be at Powerleague by 10.40 and that we can enjoy our match and support each other. Anyone who is late lets the team and his fellow players down, but most of all he lets himself down.

After the match we will be having a warm-down kick around to go over some things which need revisiting
