Under 13 Lions

Team News

Westone Wanderers Under 11 White 1

Champions, Champions, Champions, Champions..... The Lions roared to victory and the League Championship to end the season on a high as invincibles. It was never going to be easy against a determined Finchley Revolution Red team, that needed a victory to claim the title themselves. A decent start from both teams gave the supporters lots to cheer and all the players represented their Clubs in a most positive way. The Lions took the lead through Jordan but a quick response from Finchley saw the teams level at half-time. The Lions started the 2nd half in strong fashion and soon took the lead again following a good move involving James and Jordan, which Jordan smashed into the roof of the net. Again Finchley came back and within minutes were level again. However, the Lions somehow went up a gear and began to get on top, Hany latched onto a fumbled ball in the box to put the Lions 3-2 up. This time the Lions held firm and soon after made it 4-2 thanks to Hany's cool finish to secure the Championship for the Lions. Man of the Match was Jordan thanks to a powerful all round performance and two very good goals. Champions, Champions, Champions, Champions.....

Results

The Lions finished the season off in fine style to complete the season unbeaten and claim the title. The game started well with both teams on the attack. Finchley looked to take the game to the Lions who stood their ground well and started to create good chances of their own. The first break through came mid-way through the first half when Jordan beat the off-side trap to slot home his first of the day. Finchley's response was an immediate equaliser, thanks to a good through ball which for once caught our defenders flat footed. The half-time team talk was intense but once again had the desired effect as the Lions roared out of the traps putting Finchley onto the back foot. Following a good move, James found a delightful pass into space for Jordan to race away from his marker and fire home his and our second goal of the game. Once again Finchley came back at the Lions and within a couple of minutes were level again. The season was going down to the wire with both sides refusing to let the other take the upper hand. Nail-biting, exciting stuff for all the supporters and spectators. The Lions then seemed to go up a gear and started to win more and more of the ball, following a free kick, Hany latched onto a loose ball to fire home for a 3-2 advantage. This time the Lions held firm and started to pile on even more pressure. Hany then picked up the ball just inside Finchley's half, went past a couple of players before firing home to settle the match and destination of the League title. Well done the Lions, a great season full of promise and potential was realised by ultimately delivering the Championship. A special mention must also go to our opponents Finchley Revolution Red, their manager Paul and all the players, coaches, parents, supporters etc. Not only for a very good performance on the day, full of pride passion and dignity but for their excellent season as well. Indeed, it was a real credit to both clubs, teams, managers / coaches that the game, even with so much at stake was played in such good spirit with respect and fairness for all. Well done everyone and good luck for the future.
